Learn the Olympic sport of fencing!!
The fencing program has been at the Chevy Chase Community Center for over four decades and has produced fencers who have competed in local, national, and international competitions including World Championships and Olympics.
All classes meet in the fencing room in the Chevy Chase Community Center, Connecticut Avenue & McKinley Street, NW.
Youth classes are for boys and girls 8 to 12 years old. Full uniform and equipment are provided to the students.
Children are asked to wear t-shirts, short pants, long knee-length socks, and athletic shoes. Parents are encouraged to stay in the fencing room (quietly!!) and assist their child when it is time to wear the fencing uniform.
There will be one beginning-level children’s class (Saturdays, 11:30pm-12:30pm) and two intermediate-level children’s class (Level 1: Saturdays, 12:30pm-1:30pm and Level 2: Saturdays, 1:30pm-2:30pm). A Junior Epee Club practice session, under our supervision, is on Saturdays, 2:30pm-3:30pm.
There are 10 one-hour sessions each semester.
Adult foil classes are for ages 13 and above. Adult students have ranged in age from 13 to 70. Foil, jacket, and mask is provided to the students.
Adult students are asked to wear t-shirts, long loose-fitting pants, and athletic shoes. Students should bring a glove (work glove or gardening glove) for their dominant hand. Fencing gloves (less than $30.00), as well as other equipment, can be ordered if you wish to have your own.
Other equipment and fencing gear is provided for use during group classes.
There will be one beginning foil class for adults on Wednesday evenings, 6:30pm-7:30pm. An intermediate-level foil class for adults will be Wednesdays, 7:30pm-8:30pm.
There are 10 one-hour sessions each semester.
A blind epee fencing class will be held on Fridays at 7:00pm. Blind fencing is for those 13 yrs old and above who are legally blind.
Participants are asked to wear t-shirts, short pants, long knee-length socks, and athletic shoes. All other uniform and equipment will be provided for use during the classes.
There are 10 one-hour sessions each semester.
NOTE: If there are insufficient registrations for any class, it may be cancelled. Credits for a future class or refunds will be available should a class be cancelled.
Cost for the group classes, per semester, is $250.00.
Each class will be limited to 20 students due to equipment limitations. Early registration is encouraged to assure a place in the class.
