Former Chevy Chase Fencing Club fencer Katharine Holmes received the International Fencing Federation's (FIE's) Fair Play Award at the 2018 FIE Congress in Paris, France this weekend. The award is one of only three presented each year world-wide by the FIE. Kat also accepted the World Cup Medal on behalf of the US Women's Epee Team. Group classes are scheduled to start in January. The Junior Epee Program (ages 8 to 12) will begin on Saturday, January 5. The first Beginning Junior Epee class will meet at 11:00am. The Intermediate Junior Epee class will meet at 1:00pm. Junior Epee Club practice will meet on Saturdays, 2:00-3:30pm and Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30pm. The fencing classes that were scheduled to begin this week have been delayed by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation as they are not yet able to issue contracts to the instructors of all of their programs. Footwork practice will be every Thursday evening, 7:00-7:30pm. Everyone should come to the footwork practice session tonight, Thursday, October 11, 7:00-7:30pm. Footwork is an essential element of our fencing strategy and everyone at Chevy Chase needs to improve their footwork technique. Coach Matthew Moore will be leading this practice.
